You need to pass the theory test before booking your practical. With the right revision most people pass first time.
What the test covers
The theory test has two parts: multiple choice questions and a hazard perception clip test. You need to pass both at the same sitting.
Questions come from the Highway Code and official DVSA learning materials.
How to revise
Use the official DVSA revision app or book and practise little and often. Mock tests under timed conditions help a lot.
For hazard perception, click when you first see a developing hazard, not the moment it becomes dangerous. Practice clips build the timing.
Where to take it
Local learners usually book at the nearest theory test centre in Kingston, Sutton or Guildford. Check the official GOV.UK booking site for current locations and dates.
Starting lessons while you revise is a good idea, because real driving makes the theory make sense.
