How to book a driving test and find cancellations
Test waiting times across London and Surrey can be long. Booking early and checking for cancellations can save you months.
What you need to book
You need your provisional licence number, your theory test pass certificate number, and a debit or credit card.
Only book through the official GOV.UK website. Unofficial sites often charge extra fees for the same test.
Choosing a date
Talk to your instructor before booking. Many learners book once they are close to test standard so they do not waste the fee.
Given current waiting times, some learners book earlier and move the date if they need to. You can change a test date online.
Finding cancellations
Once you have a test, you can log in on GOV.UK and check for earlier slots at your chosen centre. Cancellations appear at random times, so check often.
Be ready to take a short notice slot, and let your instructor know in case they can make the car available.
